Moment Cops Wrestle Woman On Homeowner’s Roof After She Barged Into Home Screaming

This is the moment police officers detain a woman who barged into a man’s mansion home screaming and then ran onto the roof three storey’s up when the police showed up.

The incident took place at a property valued at USD 5.5 million (GBP 4.2 million) in the city of Stamford, in the US state of Connecticut, on Wednesday, 12th July.

The footage, filmed by a Stamford Police Department drone, shows the emergency rescuers gradually approaching the woman on the roof after negotiating with her for six hours.

A police officer in a white shirt can be seen talking to the woman while a female first responder hides behind one of the chimneys of the building.

Two police officers can also be seen standing behind the woman in a fire engine crane.

As the police officer in the white shirt distracts the woman and engages with her, the two officers in the fire engine crane slowly get onto the roof and approach her from behind.

They can then be seen tackling her as the female first responder and the police officer in the white shirt suddenly lunge forwards as well.

The woman can then be seen being detained as the footage ends.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Stamford Police Department on 14th July, which they attributed to Captain Chris Baker, saying: “On July 12th, at approximately 1:00 pm officers of the Stamford Police Department’s Patrol division responded to a home on Saddle Rock Road in Stamford on a disturbance call.

“Responding officers were informed by the dispatch centre that an unknown female had walked into said home and began arguing with the homeowner.

“As officers arrived on scene, they were met by the complainant who stated that a female had walked through the front door of his house and began screaming at him.

“The homeowner explained that he did not know the woman and that she was still in the house. Officers spotted the woman in the house who then fled upstairs.”

The police said that the woman then made her way onto the roof of the building, saying: “Upon setting up a perimeter, officers observed that the female had made her way onto the roof of the three story residence. Responding officers made several attempts to have the woman come back off of the roof via a balcony to no avail.

“Officers on scene requested support from the Police Department’s Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT), the SPD Behavioral Health Unit (BHU), the Stamford Fire Department (SFD), and the Stamford Emergency Medical Service (SEMS). Upon arrival, SPD Negotiators made attempts to establish communication with the woman while she was sitting on the roof. The efforts of the HNT lasted approximately 5 hours and 40 minutes.

“While this was occurring, members of the Stamford Fire Department (Truck 2) provided police officers with their ladder, safety equipment, and technical advice. Members of the BHU and HNT began making progress after hours of dialogue on an extremely hot roof. SPD officers deployed a drone (footage available) in order to assess the condition that was unfolding on the three-story roof and to provide situational awareness to negotiators.

“At approximately 6:40 pm SPD Officers, with the assistance of SFD Firefighters, were able to coral the female and take her into custody while on the roof. This incident was brought to a successful injury-free conclusion due to the collaborative effort, professionalism, and de-escalation skills displayed by members of the police department, fire department, and SEMS.

“Due to the height of the roof and where the female was positioned, the situation was extremely perilous. All first responders involved are credited with the safe conclusion to this incident.

“Once in custody, the female was transported to Stamford Hospital ER by SEMS to be evaluated. Investigating officers continue to investigate this incident and it remains active.”

It is unclear if the woman was intoxicated or mentally unwell. The police said that their behavioural unit “did enlist the help of a local clergy member to assist in the efforts.”

Mayor Caroline Simmons is quoted as saying: “I want to commend the men and women of the Stamford Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS for their collaborative work on this remarkable rescue.

“Thanks to their efforts, a life was saved, and this incident underscores the incredible commitment and professionalism of all our first responders.”
