Two Florida Teens Arrested for Bringing Supposed Rifle to Elementary School

Two teenagers, Kelvin Dupree (18) and Calvin Hollis (14), have been arrested after being found with what appeared to be a rifle on the campus of Schmidt Elementary School in Brandon, Florida.

The incident occurred during summer classes just before 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, the 25th of July, 2023, prompting the school to be placed on lockdown.

District V deputies responded to a call from the principal, who reported the presence of two armed males on the east side of the school near the drop-off area. Upon arrival, the deputies ordered the suspects to drop the firearm and lie on the ground, to which they complied without resistance, and were taken into custody safely.

Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the deputies’ swift and professional response, ensuring the safety of students and teachers on campus.

The weapon was later determined to be a BB gun with an optic. Sheriff Chronister issued a strong warning against firearms on school grounds, emphasizing that the safety of students and staff is the top priority, and any such incidents will be dealt with decisively.

The arrested teenagers face multiple charges, including Exhibition of a Weapon on School Property, Trespass on School Property with a Weapon, and Disrupting a School/Lawful Assembly.
