Charles Reed, from the city of Frederick, in the US state of Maryland, said the win followed after he and his daughter stopped by a local ‘High’ store on Saturday, 7th October.

The pool technician said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from the Maryland Lottery: “She’s my good luck charm.”

The loving dad of three recalled how his daughter had told him at the time: “Get a scratch-off, dad.”

He said he listened to his daughter’s tip and then bought two USD 5 (GBP 4) Ravens X5 instant tickets with a USD 10 (GBP 8) tip he had received earlier.

Charles later stopped at a friend’s place to play the games and was stunned when one of the winning numbers, a 33, matched the last number on the scratchcard for the USD 100,000 (GBP 81,293) top prize.

Charles said: “My daughter was asking, did I win, but I couldn’t speak. I just picked her up and spun her around and around as she was saying, ‘We’re rich!'”

At the same time, the lucky player explained, his wife had called him to say that her car had broken down and she was stuck on the motorway.

Charles then took his daughter with him and went to rescue his wife and share the good news with her.

At lottery headquarters, his wife said: “When he showed me the ticket, I just started screaming on the side of the highway. It was a roller coaster of emotions.”

Charles revealed he would not have purchased any games that day if it was not for his daughter’s encouragement.

The family will reportedly use the money to buy a new car and pay off some debts.

Maryland Lottery officials said: “The Ravens X5 scratch-off that went on sale in August, just in time for football season, still has five USD 100,000 top prizes remaining.

“There are also 10 USD 10,000 [GBP 8,129] prizes available and many more between USD 5 and USD 1,000 [GBP 812].

“The Lottery retailer that sold the USD 100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off gets to share in Charles’ excitement.

“High’s #083 located at 11780 Old National Pike in New Market will receive a USD 1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

“The USD 5 Ravens X5 and USD 2 [GBP 1.6] Ravens X2 instant tickets are part of the Ravens Second-Chance Promotion.

“Players can enter non-winning tickets into My Lottery Rewards for the chance to win a variety of prizes including USD 10,000 cash, an away trip to Jacksonville with the team, a chance at Ravens season tickets for 20 years and so much more.”
