Shannon Overby from the town of Madison, North Carolina State, USA, reportedly told her son she would hit the jackpot just days before she scooped a USD 200,000 (GBP 157,202) prize on Saturday, 17th June.

The tattoo enthusiast said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from North Carolina Education Lottery: “I told him, ‘I’m going to win this.’ I spoke it into existence.”

The grand win followed after she made a stop at the Mayodan Marathon on North 2nd Avenue in the town of Mayodan and bought her favourite USD 5 (GBP 4) The Price is Right scratch card.

Revealing she could not believe her eyes upon uncovering the prize, Overby said: “I about passed out in my kitchen. Then I just hugged my son.”

At lottery headquarters on Thursday (22nd June), Shannon who had recently lost several family members and battled with health issues said the win came at the right time.

She said: “I want people to know that being positive through trials and tribulations really does get you a win in the end.

“Just keep being positive and it will come back to you.”

She added: “You couldn’t have a more grateful person to win this. I’ve probably cried every day since I won; definitely happy tears.”

Shannon then collected USD 142,501 (GBP 112,025) following state and federal taxes.

She revealed she will use the money to pay off her car, help out her local funeral home and animal shelter, and save or invest the rest.

Lottery officials said: “The Price is Right game debuted in October with four top prizes of USD 200,000.

“Since Overby won the last USD 200,000 prize, the lottery will start the process of ending the game.”
