A lotto winner who scooped USD 100,000 on a scratch card has told she plans to celebrate with a luxury session in a nail bar.
Retired nurse Jodi Owens – from the town of Shallotte, North Carolina State, USA – had been gardening when she broke off to buy dog food.
But on her way home she made a stop at the local Civietown Mini Mart for a USD 30 (GBP 23) Black Titanium scratch card.
Astonished Jodi scratched off the panels later that day and discovered she was in line for a massive USD 100,000 (GBP 77,846) payout.
She said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from North Carolina Education Lottery: “I’m still in shock. It’s truly a blessing.”
Jodi collected her prize at lottery headquarters in the city of Raleigh on 28th July.
When asked about her plans for the windfall, Jodi said: “I’m gonna pay my mortgage off and pay my car off.
“I’m thinking about getting a manicure/pedicure too!”
Jodi took home USD 71,259 (GBP 55,440) after deductions for state and federal taxes.
Lottery officials said: “The USD 30 [GBP 23] game launched last month with six USD 4 million [GBP 3.1 million] top prizes and 16 USD 100,000 [GBP 77,846] prizes.
“Five USD 4 million [GBP 3.1 million] top prizes and 13 USD 100,000 [GBP 77,845] prizes remain.
“Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise an average of USD 2.5 million [GBP 1.9 million] a day for education.”
